Foster parents don’t care much for social workers

A national survey of foster parents has found that 73 per cent regard the attitude of bureaucrats and social workers as the “worst thing” about fostering.
Freda Briggs, a child protection expert at the University of South Australia, said the online survey, conducted ahead of this year’s national foster care conference in October, found that the majority would not recommend fostering to their friends. “They are reminded frequently that these are the department’s children and they are expected to provide physical care without becoming emotionally involved,” Professor Briggs said.,20867,20415042-2702,00.html
