Labour questions adequacy of CYF

Labour is questioning whether Child Youth and Family is adequately funded, following revelations about a neglect case in Lower Hutt. MP Jacinda Ardern says four children under five, who were taken from their parents after being found dirty and malnourished, ended up back at the family home just days later. CYF reportedly removed the children from their parents, however the family member who they were placed with returned them to their parents’ care within days.

….the Minister for Social Development, Paula Bennett, claims  the agency is operating effectively but isn’t able to stop neglect outright. “They are responding better than they ever have before,”  said Ms Bennett. “But unfortunately we have parents who are incredibly  neglectful and we get incredibly sad cases like this”.
